Sunday afternoon at Coney Island in Brooklyn New York is a helm for beachgoers, families, couples and roller coaster fanatics. You can find the best of the world congregating to check out one of New York’s most iconic board walks and annual soon to be year around amusement parks. Here you can find the second steepest roller coaster in the world the Legendary CYCLONE Roller coaster.
The Cyclone was not the only rare find at Coney Island today but in a neighborhood tavern called the Coney Island Brewing Company at the corner of North 12th street and Surf Avenue you could also find some of the rarest of vinyl albums at the first ever Coney Island Record Fair.
Collectors like Andrew, Debbie and Eliza displayed some of the prized collections and traded a few gems that were up for sale. Debbie & Eliza who are personal collectors said they only have visited the circuit of Traders and vendors one or twice.
Igor of Ancient Records is a veteran at the record fair circuit and specializes in Eastern European Vinyl. “I have them from trading with friends back in Russia in the 80’s” he said when asked about one of his popular rare pieces. “Na Zare” translated to “In the Sky” by a popular Soviet Union group Alliance. Who recorded their hit in 1987 right after the fall of the Soviet Union. Igor shared that this album was an original press and is extremely hard to find but he is selling his copy for $100USD. Other albums were available from different genres in his collection. They were all available for sale or traded for another rare piece.
These collectors had a day spending time with hobbyist like themselves on the “circuit” as they refer to the record fairs as. We will be following them as they travel throughout New York City sharing more of their great pieces with the world.
